Today's slip was Ishkaboo.
It's kind of funny that I picked him out of the can today because earlier I was thinking of what I would do when I did pick him. I was laying with him on the couch watching Cold Case Files (lol) and I was looking at his face thinking of a cool way to do him in charcoal.
I picked a piece of yellow/tanish/orangish pastel paper. It's a little heavy and textured for charcoal but I liked the texture of it showing through for him since he is peppered with light hair. I shaded the whole paper in charcoal and blended it in with a napkin I had nearby. Then I used my artgum eraser to wipe out the bright parts of his face. It turned out pretty abstract so I went with it. I used the charcoal to darken some lines to enhance his cat stripes.
It was a quick piece but it turned out pretty neat and it's really the first time I've done anything with charcoal. I really liked the reverse drawing aspect of using the eraser to actually draw it. I am leaving it propped up against the wall until I can get spray fixative for it. I am putting off any further charcoal adventures until I get some, as it is really fragile to have on paper and wipes away easily.
